Nightwing’s coming along pretty rapidly. Last week I finalised a pattern for the blue V across his chest and back. It’s actually just one piece, which was a risky gamble since it takes up so much fabric (which is so expensive, 6 way stretch ugh), but ultimately, I think it was a good choice.
Here is the layout for the final piece, sans collar:

Turned into a pinned mess:

The diamond points on the front of the costume & shoulders took the longest. I didn’t want them to end up wonky like the muslins were, thanks to shifting around and matching seams that weren’t stretching in the same direction. First I hand-basted them, an inch past either point. I ran them through my sewing machine and then serged it. I think they turned out pretty decently, though I am sorry I didn’t get to add the little zags midway through his chest:

The back, basted (because seam-ripping a zipper is a pain in the ass) for fitting purposes, hence the misalignment:

Got some normal poses out of him this week. ;)
Shining point of the week, however, goes to the gloves. While making A’s Robin gloves, I must have gone through around six muslins to get the right size and stretch. These came together with just one muslin - easy! In the photo below it’s on my hand, so it looks a little wonky:

Lo has requested weapons for his costume - the ridiculously-named “Wingdings,” as well as escrima sticks. I purchased a bunch of black model magic and some 1/2” thick craft foam, and I’m going to have him help me create them. Here’s to hoping tomorrow (when I see him next) they’ll work out, as well as a final fitting for the zippered, collared shirt, and pants. I will probably insert a strip of fabric at the end of the gloves, for the wingdings (aka batarangs) to hook onto, and maybe loops at the side hips for the escrima sticks. Anger-safe weapons, voila!
