That’s awesome! The YJ speedy costume is adorable :) I think I understand what you’re saying, and I sort of did that too.

A’s Speedy costume was based mostly on Teen Titans Year One Speedy, because it was his current favourite comic. TTY1 Speedy’s hat was something of a marvel, in that it seemed to be able to make a variety of shapes possible:

(i mean really. top right, what IS THAT?)

when i made the muslin/draft for his hat, I made it in 4 parts (2 for the head, 2 for the wings, so 8 if you count lining) and extra large, so i could drape and cut it to the shape i wanted. Here’s the pattern i got from that:

And A muslin’ing it out:

The problem I had was, making it two separate pieces meant that it had a clear seam over, as you can see. it made the wings like a flap, with no separation in the middle like they sometimes had. I wanted his hat to be more fluid and less stationary since (it’s not in TTY1, like, at all), so i combined the pattern pieces. A’s speedy hat is actually only 2 pattern pieces (4 if you count lining):

I accidentally combined them backwards, creating a lovely horrible bump affect on A’s hat (which you can’t really see because I picked my photos around it, haha), but basically, when done PROPERLY, it made it so there was only a flap seam at the back of the hat, so the front could roll more naturally. Like lining a jacket, I just left a spot open at the flap seam, to pull it right side out. I chose the seam on the outside, since the flap will curl upward and no one will see my handsewing.

This is the corrected pattern:

It’s an easy fix, I just.. have to do it. :)
